edTPA Academic Language Webinars

In partnership with Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE), the edTPA Support Team at Evaluation Systems will be hosting a series of webinars for edTPA Community members during the 2020–2021 academic year.

The intended audience for this webinar series is faculty, instructors, supervisors, and mentor teachers who support teacher candidates and who are new to edTPA. Those who wish to engage in a review of academic language in edTPA are also invited to attend.

This 90-minute workshop provides an overview of the academic language demands used for academic language purposes. Participants will be able to identify what candidates must plan and provide evidence of in terms of language supports to engage students in learning to develop and express content understandings.

Pre-reads: To prepare for the Academic Language workshop participants should download the edTPA Handbook that they wish to review. Handbooks can be accessed in the edTPA Resource Library on edTPA.org Link opens in a new window. (you must have or create a profile) or through your program's edTPA Coordinator. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the academic language rubrics in the handbook (rubrics 4 and 14).

Please note: The Classical Languages and World Language edTPA Handbooks do not include rubrics 4 and 14, specific to the academic language construct as found in other edTPA handbooks. Additionally, the Early Childhood edTPA Handbook has a focus on supporting students' vocabulary development and not the other language demands.
